A Letter from Our CEO
KBI Biopharma is committed to being a resilient, sustainable company. We understand that sustainability is imperative, which is why it is a fundamental principle that guides our actions and shapes our vision for the future. Today, environmental and social actions cannot be tangent, or even parallel, to our economic business strategy – it must be embedded in it.
Our vision of sustainability is one that recognizes the interconnectedness and interdependence of our operations to the world around us. The patients that receive the therapies on which we work, our employees, the environment – we are responsible for each and every potential impact our organization makes.
We’ve summarized our approach through the three keys aspects of our Sustainability policy:
- Responsibility: We actively take responsibility for the impacts of our past and future actions and transparently communicate with all our stakeholders.
- Circularity: We prioritize waste reduction and economic resilience through innovative practices and resource efficiencies.
- Respect: We commit to respecting our people and planet beyond simply adhering to laws and regulations.
In addition, we contribute to overall sustainability by developing ground-breaking and efficient drug discovery and biomanufacturing techniques that ultimately support longevity and enhance quality of life by getting the right therapies to patients as quickly as possible.
From an environmental standpoint, we’ve adopted a strategy of “Measure. Minimize. Mitigate.” and our approach is simple: No impactful change is too big to tackle or too small to dismiss. Our employees are empowered to identify and address local and regional opportunities, while we have a dedicated team focused on global projects. We want to accurately measure and drastically minimize our footprint through the adoption of energy-efficient technologies and processes, waste reduction, and conservation of natural resources and have set ambitious targets to do so. KBI has implemented plans to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by more than 42% by 2030. I’m proud to say that we are already making strides to reach that goal well in advance.
We are also developing a plan to minimize the waste that ends up in landfills. Our target is zero and, while we have a long way to go, we’re dedicated to understanding our waste streams and actively seeking innovative solutions, including engaging with our suppliers and partners.
Sustainability at KBI extends beyond environmental concerns to encompass a robust commitment to social responsibility. We believe in fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace where every individual is valued and encouraged to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, we not only enrich our company culture but also drive innovation, collaboration, and creativity within our teams.
Sustainability is more than a goal at KBI, it is our guidepost for a journey of continuous improvement. Through comprehensive initiatives, we are committed to measuring our progress transparently, setting ambitious targets, and adapting our strategies to meet these ever-evolving challenges. By embedding sustainability into our culture, values, and business strategy, we are making a meaningful difference across the globe and leaving a legacy for future generations that we can all be proud of.
